Road Trip in Scotland publishes general travel information to help you plan. We research every guide carefully, date-check the details and list our sources, but we can’t guarantee that everything is complete, accurate or up to date when you read it. Please read this page before relying on any guide.
Things change
Opening times, prices, parking charges, ferry timetables, dog rules, access rules and road conditions can all change without notice. Seasonal restrictions vary from year to year, and businesses close or change hands.
Before you travel, check the latest information with the people responsible, for example:
- the relevant council, National Park authority or landowner for access, parking and dog rules
- operators and venues for prices, bookings and opening times
- Traffic Scotland for roads, and CalMac or the relevant operator for ferries
- the Met Office for weather, and published tide times for beaches and coastal walks
Signs on site always take priority over anything in our guides.
Outdoor activities are at your own risk
Many of our guides cover activities with real risks, including paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, wild swimming, coastal and hill walking, beaches with tides and currents, and driving on single-track Highland roads. Scottish water is cold all year and weather can change quickly.
You are responsible for deciding whether an activity is suitable for you, your group and your dog, for your own safety and for following the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Our guides are not a substitute for proper training, safety equipment, professional instruction or your own judgement. If conditions look unsafe, don’t go. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the coastguard on the coast or police for mountain rescue.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site is legal, medical, financial or professional safety advice. Descriptions of laws and byelaws are summaries to help you plan, not legal guidance.
Businesses and other websites
We mention and link to businesses, operators and other websites because we think they are useful. A mention is not an endorsement or a guarantee, and we are not responsible for their services, prices, content or privacy practices. Your agreement for any booking is with that business, not with us.
Adverts and affiliate links
At the moment, Road Trip in Scotland has no adverts, sponsored posts or affiliate links, and no business has paid to be included in a guide. If that changes, we will label any paid content or affiliate link clearly where it appears.
Spotted something out of date?
We update guides when things change and show the date of the last update at the top of each one. If you find something wrong, please email hello@roadtripinscotland.com and we will check it.
